Vice President of Equatorial Guinea Visits Cultural Museum of African Art

The Cultural Museum of African Art/Eric Edwards Collection welcomed H.E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, Vice President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, for a special visit to the museum in Brooklyn on Monday, September 21, 2026.

The visit included brief remarks, a guided viewing of artifacts from Equatorial Guinea, and a special presentation recognizing the government and people of Equatorial Guinea for their early support of the museum.

According to museum founder Dr. Eric Edwards, Equatorial Guinea was the first African government to provide financial support to the Cultural Museum of African Art. That early support came at an important time in the museum’s development and remains an important part of the museum’s history.

The visit provided an opportunity to recognize the longstanding connection between Equatorial Guinea and the Cultural Museum of African Art and to highlight the country’s cultural heritage through the museum’s collection.

The museum is honored to have welcomed the Vice President and to recognize the relationship between Equatorial Guinea and the museum.
