Our Engagements

Currently, the Cultural Museum of African Art (CMAA) is engaged in the meticulous electronic cataloging of Mr. Edwards’s extensive collection. This remarkable assemblage comprises masks, sculptures, paintings depicting African royalty and members of secret societies, spiritual and ritual masks, ancestral figures, weaponry, jewelry, ornamental pieces, reliquary objects, musical instruments, fetish items, tools, utensils, and an extensive vinyl record collection. This comprehensive cataloging effort is shaping the foundation of one of the most inclusive and wide-ranging archives dedicated to African and African-American cultural artifacts.

The digitization of this collection serves as the cornerstone for the creation of a groundbreaking 3-Dimensional, 360-degree virtual reality immersive tour of the CMAA’s physical site. During this immersive journey, visitors will have the opportunity to explore every facet of our museum, accompanied by a captivating narration that delves into the historical significance of each artifact. What makes this experience truly unique is that the audio backdrop will feature selections from our extensive vinyl collection, enhancing the ambiance and authenticity of the tour.

This immersive tour, aptly named the “Spirits Speak VR Tour,” is set to be a pioneering endeavor in the realm of African Art. It will provide an unparalleled opportunity for individuals to engage with and understand the rich tapestry of African heritage in a way that transcends traditional museum experiences. As we embark on this innovative venture, we are proud to stand at the forefront of cultural preservation and immersive storytelling.

Join us on this remarkable journey as we bring the vibrant stories of African and African-American culture to life through cutting-edge technology and a profound dedication to heritage. The “Spirits Speak VR Tour” promises to be an unforgettable exploration of history, art, and human connection.
