Guidelines for Art-facts Donations 

Introduction

Cultural Museum of African Art (CMAA) welcomes offers of African art objects and artifacts that align with our mission to preserve, educate, and share the cultural heritage of African artistic traditions. We carefully review all proposed donations to ensure they support the museum’s goals and collection strategy.

What We Accept

We consider donations of authentic, well-documented art objects and artifacts that:

• Have clear ownership and legal title.

• Are relevant to African art, history, culture, or education.

• Complement or strengthen our existing collections.

• Have verifiable provenance and documentation.

• Are in good condition and capable of long-term preservation.

Selection Criteria

All proposed donations are evaluated according to the following criteria:

1. Mission Alignment
   Objects must contribute meaningfully to CMAA’s cultural, educational, and historical objectives.

2. Relevance & Significance
   We assess whether the item enhances understanding of African artistic practices and cultural narratives.

3. Condition & Conservation Needs
   Items must be stable and able to be preserved under museum care. Donations requiring resources beyond CMAA’s capacity may not be accepted.

4. Documentation & Provenance
   Donors should provide full ownership history, authenticity records, and relevant documentation.

5. Curatorial Review
   All items are reviewed by museum staff; acceptance is determined at CMAA’s discretion.

Donation Terms

• All donations accepted by CMAA become the property of the museum.

• CMAA cannot guarantee that objects will be exhibited or displayed permanently.

• Donors are responsible for any valuations; CMAA cannot provide tax advice.

• Donations should be unconditional and irrevocable upon transfer.

Submission Process

To propose a donation:

1. Prepare a detailed description of the object, including photographs.

2. Include provenance documentation and legal ownership verification.

3. Submit your materials to: info@cmaaeec.org with the subject line Art-facts Donation Inquiry.
